August Election Update

As you have probably heard on the news, the Michigan Secretary of State is sending an Absent Voter Ballot Application to every voter in the State of Michigan EXCEPT those who are on my permanent absent voter list.  I will still be mailing them to the permanent list.  The Secretary of State is doing this in an effort to mitigate the chances of spreading the Covid-19 virus on election day.  Please note that you DO NOT have to vote by absentee ballot.  At this point, the polls will still be open on election day.  I think that you can expect to experience longer lines and longer wait times as we adhere to the required social distancing regulations.  The decision is yours.  If you have any questions or concerns about the absentee voting process, please do not hesitate to contact me at 616-891-8238.  It is 100% safe and secure but is not right for everyone.  Thanks for your patience through this difficult time.

Mary Lou Nieuwenhuis, Leighton Twp. Clerk
